EYFS

Welcome to Butterfly Class!

Butterflies are taught by Miss Moore, and our teaching assistant is Mrs Pearson.  Time out of class for PPA or subject leadership will usually be covered by our supply teacher, Mrs Andrews, every other Friday.  We have lots of exciting things lined up this year, including school trips, a nativity production in the Autumn Term and a Bug Ball in the Summer Term!

Home Learning

Engagement with home learning is a vital part of helping your child build strong foundations in reading and phonics. We encourage all families to read with their child at least five times a week, and to record this on Boom Reader. These regular reading sessions help develop fluency, confidence, and a love of books from an early age.

Phonics is key to early literacy. Each week, we’ll share the sounds and tricky words your child is learning. Please practise these at home through fun activities, games, and reading. Consistent reinforcement helps children make rapid progress in recognising and blending sounds to read words. Together, we can make a real difference in your child’s learning journey.

To teach reading at Newlands, we follow 'Little Wandle, Letters and Sounds Revised' which is a complete systematic synthetic phonics programme (SSP). There is a support section online for parents and carers, where you can find resources to inform you of how the programme works and what your children will experience. There are also some short videos for you to access: For parents | Letters and Sounds

Tapestry

In Reception, we use the online learning platform Tapestry to share and celebrate your child’s learning journey. Each pupil has a profile where staff upload photos, videos, and observations. We encourage families to log in regularly, leave comments, and share home experiences. Sharing what your child does at home, whether it’s reading, exploring phonics, baking, or building helps us create a fuller picture of their development and strengthens the link between home and school. Your engagement makes a real difference, and we love seeing the wonderful things your child gets up to beyond the classroom!

Reception Newsletter

Every half-term, you’ll receive a newsletter by email that highlights what your child will be exploring in Reception. These letters give you a clear picture of our learning themes, activities, and the key vocabulary we’ll be introducing to support your child’s language development. We encourage you to use the newsletter at home to talk about the new words and ideas your child is learning. This helps to build confidence, deepen understanding, and strengthen the connection between home and school.

Communication

Communication is key, so if there is any aspect of school life that you would like to discuss, please get in touch either by talking to Miss Moore at home time or emailing the school office. Please note we cannot respond to emails while teaching, therefore 48 hours is the email response window. We believe that working in partnership with parents is key to helping every child thrive, so please don't hesitate to speak to us if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, your insight is invaluable.

Thank you for your continued support!

All future updates will be posted on the Butterflies blog page.
