Welcome to Dormouse Class, where children begin an exciting new stage of their learning journey as they move from the Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1.

In Year 1, we build upon the strong foundations developed in Reception, combining practical, hands-on learning experiences with increasing independence and challenge. Our classroom is a nurturing and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to be curious, confident and enthusiastic learners.

Reading is at the heart of everything we do, and children continue to develop their phonics, fluency and love of books through daily reading opportunities. Across the curriculum, pupils explore a wide range of exciting topics, develop their creativity, strengthen their mathematical understanding and build important skills for lifelong learning.

In Dormouse Class, we celebrate effort, resilience and achievement, helping every child to grow in confidence as they take the next steps in their educational journey. We work closely with families to ensure that every child feels happy, supported and successful throughout their Year 1 experience.
