At Newlands Primary Academy, we believe that every child should develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become a successful writer. Through the CUSP Writing curriculum, children learn to write for a range of purposes and audiences, developing their ability to communicate clearly, creatively and effectively. 

Our writing curriculum is built around high-quality texts, rich vocabulary and carefully sequenced learning. Children explore a wide variety of genres, including narrative, poetry, reports, explanations, letters and persuasive writing, enabling them to understand the features and purpose of different forms of writing. 

Vocabulary development is a key feature of our approach. Through explicit teaching, discussion and reading, children acquire ambitious vocabulary that enhances both their understanding and their written work. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are taught within meaningful contexts, helping pupils to apply their knowledge confidently and accurately. 

As writers, children are encouraged to plan, draft, edit and improve their work, developing independence, resilience and pride in their achievements. By the time they leave Newlands Primary Academy, we aim for all pupils to be articulate, imaginative and confident writers who are equipped with the skills they need for the next stage of their education and beyond.
