    Our Approach to Remote Education

    At Newlands Primary Academy, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils can continue learning effectively during any period where they are unable to attend school in person, in line with authorised absences such as prolonged ill health or emergency school closure. Our remote education offer aims to provide high-quality teaching, maintain strong relationships, and support pupils’ wellbeing, whether they are learning at home for short-term absence or longer periods.

    Aims of Our Remote Education

    Our remote education provision is designed to:

    • Ensure continuity of learning for all pupils.
    • Provide meaningful, well‑structured lessons aligned with our in‑school curriculum.
    • Support pupils’ wellbeing and emotional needs.
    • Enable regular communication between teachers, pupils, and families.
    • Be accessible, inclusive, and manageable for families.

    What Pupils Can Expect

    1. Curriculum

    We will deliver the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible. Adjustments may be made for practical subjects or activities that require specialist resources.

    2. Daily Learning

    Pupils will be provided with:

    • Daily English and mathematics learning.
    • A range of foundation subjects across the week.
    • Tasks that include a balance of online and offline activities.

    3. Platforms Used

    Remote learning may be delivered through:

    • Online platforms such as Tapestry or Teams.

    • Printed learning packs where digital access is limited.
    • Online reading tools and curriculum resources.

    Expectations for Engagement

    For pupils:

    • Complete the learning set each day, as far as is reasonably possible.
    • Ask questions or seek help from their teacher through the agreed platform emailed to parents at the start of the remote learning.

    • Behave respectfully in all online interactions.

    For parents/carers:

    • Support routines to help children engage with learning.
    • Contact the school if they require support with access or learning expectations.
    • Encourage children to ask for help when needed.

    Support for Pupils with Additional Needs

    We are committed to ensuring remote learning is inclusive. Adjustments may include:

    • Personalised learning tasks.
    • Additional adult support via online sessions.
    • Use of visual supports, scaffolds, or specialised resources.
    • Enhanced communication between families and the SEND team.

    Access to Technology

    If families require help accessing digital devices or internet connectivity, the school will aim to:

    • Loan devices, where available.
    • Provide printed resources if online access is not possible.
    • Offer support to set up or troubleshoot digital tools.

    Monitoring Engagement and Providing Feedback

    Teachers will:

    • Monitor pupils’ engagement daily.
    • Provide feedback on key pieces of work to support progress.
    • Contact families directly if engagement becomes a concern.

    Safeguarding and Wellbeing

    Pupil wellbeing remains a priority. During remote learning periods:

    • Staff will maintain regular contact with pupils.
    • The school will follow safeguarding procedures for remote contact.
    • Families can reach out to the school if they have any concerns about their child’s wellbeing.
