At Newlands Primary Academy, we teach Music through the Charanga Music Scheme, which provides a creative, engaging and progressive curriculum for all children. Music is a universal language, and we aim to inspire a love of music while developing confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement.
Through Charanga, pupils develop their skills in listening, singing, performing, improvising, composing and appraising music. Children explore a wide range of musical styles, genres and traditions, learning to recognise and understand the different elements of music, including pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo and structure.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression from Early Years through to Year 6. Through practical musical experiences, children build their knowledge and skills over time, developing as confident performers, thoughtful listeners and creative composers. Opportunities to work collaboratively, perform to others and use musical technology further enhance learning and enjoyment.
We believe that every child is musical. Through a rich and inspiring curriculum, we aim to nurture a lifelong appreciation of music and encourage all pupils to express themselves creatively and confidently.
