At Newlands Primary Academy, we aim to develop children’s enjoyment of languages and an appreciation of different cultures through the teaching of Spanish. Using resources from the BBC language programme, pupils are introduced to Spanish through engaging songs, stories, conversations, games and cultural experiences.

Children develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish, building confidence through regular opportunities to practise vocabulary, pronunciation and simple sentence structures. Topics are carefully sequenced to help pupils revisit and build upon prior learning, enabling them to communicate in increasingly meaningful ways.

Alongside language learning, children explore the cultures and traditions of Spain and the wider Spanish-speaking world. This helps to broaden their understanding of different countries, communities and ways of life, fostering curiosity, respect and global awareness.

Through our Spanish curriculum, we aim to inspire children to become enthusiastic language learners, equipping them with the confidence and skills to continue studying languages as they move on to secondary school.
