At Newlands Primary Academy, we believe that physical education should be an essential part of every child’s school experiences, and we promote daily physical well-being for every learner.
Physical education develops children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing skill and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, athletics and outdoor activities. Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action and the skills of cooperation, teamwork and respect. It promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle for their future. We are fortunate to have, in our school grounds, an excellent environment for outdoor physical education.
We welcome the government’s commitment to sport in primary schools through the School Sport Premium. This funding is given to schools to promote physical exercise and well-being for children. At Newlands Primary Academy decisions are made each year to ensure that this funding is used to improve our provision for PE, and to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities we can offer their pupils. The impact of this funding is reviewed each year, and details of these will be available to view on this page of our website when available. We aim to ensure that these improvements are sustainable, by linking them with staff development, resource provision and raised expectations and aspirations for all our children.
